If I'm giving a second hero an artefact by playing a warscroll batallion

If I'm giving a second hero an artefact by playing a warscroll batallion can I give my general and the extra hero the same artefact or do they have to be different?
 
The rules don't mention that they have to be different but I was playing an opponent who insisted they have to be.
