Just How Big Is Warhammer?
Last week we overheard the British Foreign Minister likening NATO to a global Warhammer, and one is forced to ask if is he a fan or if the game is that big. Earlier, the stats rolled out an unfair comparison that showed that Games Workshop contributed more to the economy than the entire UK fishing industry. Both are big. NATO is huge, with almost all 31 EU members, Canada, and the US.
How big Is Warhammer?
If you remember correctly Warhammer 40K rolled out in 1987 and the last edition in 2023. Games Workshop has reported a fan community that buys the game currently. There are 4.7 million members who acquire this expensive game.
However, we must remember that this game needs at least one opponent, and in most cases, this is a gift awarded so that the player can get going. So, if you add another 2 million gamers that would make it about 6.5 million players.
The Goonhammer 2022 Reader Survey concluded that Warhammer 40k had 2.4 million loyal players, or hobbyists. These are people who play the game, read the comics, follow the updates, follow the competitions, and even read the chronicles.
A Reddit thread did not get any closer to determining the size of the Warhammer Community either. Even as the game continues to rise in popularity across the continent, the major countries continue to be the UK, EU, US, and Canada. However, according to Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad, the Total War series has always been popular in China.
While we are not sure of how large is this game, it would seem that Warhammer is making its way into political and even war chiefs households. Will it become as big as NATO or outperform the UK fishing industry? We do not think so. The only thing that is very certain, is that Warhammer will continue to make us play.
