Games Workshop to Expand With New Factory
According to Games Workshop’s 2023-24 report published on Monday, it is “exploring options” for opening another Warhammer factory at its Nottingham, UK location. The possibility of establishing Factory 4 is included in the firm’s plan to meet rising customer demands.
During the first half of 2023-24, Games Workshop set new records for revenue and profitability. The company had a record month of sales in June 2023 for Warhammer 40k 10th edition
Many Warhammer: The Old World launch products sold out on the first day of preorders this Saturday, showing that Games Workshop has been unable to satisfy consumer demand. Games Workshop’s web store crashed due to high demand for some highly anticipated product launches – though the firm has since updated its web sales platform.
Fans who were unable to pick up products on launch day will be eager for Games Workshop’s production capacities to increase soon. However, Games Workshop has a long institutional memory. Rick Priestley, the father of Warhammer 40k, said in an interview with the now-defunct blog Unplugged Games that the company nearly went bankrupt by overproducing products.
The half-year report notes that “improving efficiencies” has led to “numerous manufacturing output records being broken” at Games Workshop’s three factories in Nottingham. These factories employ 361 people, and their payroll for the six months from June 2023 totals $7.5 million (£6 million), apart from temporary staff costs.
Aside from legacy IT systems, Games Workshop also deals with legacy processes that affect launch-day sales and third-party fulfillment. Read this article to learn more about how these legacy systems are impacting customers and how the firm plans to modernize them.
All this does make sense. Spurred on by growing demand for Warhammer miniatures, Games Workshop is “exploring options for Factory 4” at its base in Nottingham, UK. How many new employees, raw materials, and third parties will get involved is yet to be seen.
