Militarum Offensive – 1 Warhammer Crossover
In February, Arrowhead’s co-op shooter Helldivers 2 was launched, and players immediately asked for a Warhammer 40k Helldivers 2 crossover. The game was actually developed and almost released, but Games Workshop canceled it before launch. The game was called Militarum Offensive.
The Helldivers 2 source code revealed a hidden section containing
- around 350 text files,
- graphics textures,
- and audio files.
All of these files are related to an unreleased Warhammer 40k game mode titled ‘Militarum Offensive’.
Militarum Offensive – Warhammer Crossover You Missed
Notably, members of Warhammer 40k’s videogame modding community Adeptus Modificatus discovered the Militarum Offensiv .data. They later shared it with various media and colleagues including Wargamer. The group later reconstructed the game mode’s features.
Militarum Offensive is essentially a reskin and partial conversion of Helldivers 2’s online multiplayer missions and campaign map. It transforms all Terminid enemies into Tyranids of similar size and proportion. This mod replaces the core game’s unlockable armor, weapons, boosters, stratagems, and ship modules. All elements are then refurbished with equivalents from the Warhammer 40k faction Astra Militarum.
Like the video game’s titular Helldivers, the Astra Militarum is largely made up of lightly armored human infantry soldiers. These soldiers are frequently deployed on highly dangerous missions against superior alien foes, motivated by ultra-nationalist ideology
Files analyzed by the modders suggest that Militarum Offensive had basic weapons and armor were included in the mode. There are:
- texture,
- animation and audio files for Lasguns,
- Flamers, Meltaguns,
- and three armor models: flak armor,
- regular carapace armor, and Militarum Tempestus style improved carapace armor.
The game’s trademark activated abilities – Stratagems – have however been given some serious extra development attention with lore-appropriate, Imperial Guard themes.
According to the Adeptus Modificatus research, Militarum Offensive included
- stratagems to requisition a Scout Sentinel walker (reskinned from the Automaton enemies’ Scout Strider);
- a Shadowsword superheavy tank (a reskin of the Automatons’ Tanks);
- and the option to call in Space Marine support from a Redemptor Dreadnought (adapted from the Automatons’ Hulks).
