Embergard – What Exactly Does Everyone Want with Its Ruins?
Deep beneath the surface of Aqshy, warbands duke it out for precious emberstone and glory in the new edition of Warhammer Underworlds. The core set of the new edition takes its name from the ruined city of Embergard, which lies atop these tunnels and mines, but you might be wondering exactly why, in the aftermath of the realm-shattering Vermindoom, this particular pile of rubble is so important?
Thankfully, the Warhammer Design Studio has you covered, with an introduction to the city and why it’s become such a focal point in the Hour of Ruin. Warhammer Community Blog
The Twin-Tailed Crusade founded Embergard during the Dawnbringers campaign series. Its banner was planted by the Aqshian half of the initiative, but it was not their original intention.
Embergard – What Exactly Does Everyone Want with Its Ruins?
As disaster after disaster struck the crusade, Pontifex Zenestra and her fanatical Cult of the Wheel effectively took control. Zenestra received a vision from Sigmar to divert the crusade’s paths to the destroyed city and purge it of the undead.
It is believed that Zenestra’s reason for moving the city might have been caused by the strange carvings found across the city’s ancient architecture. However, her decision proved astute: emberstone veins were found inside the Ashenmont mountain on which the city stood.
There are many useful properties of Aqshy, including its power to infuse warriors with aggression, and its power to burn. Moreover, it’s used as a fuel source for some of Ironweld Arsenal’s most impressive systems.
The masters of Embergard understood the city would be a lucrative trading resource, so they fortified the place and carved underground mines into the heart of Ashenmont. Rumors of monsters in the night were suppressed, as Zenestra killed off all the Necromancers and Nighthaunts.
There was a prophecy circulating even before the Twin-Tailed Crusade left Hammerhal that one city founded during the campaign would stand, and one would fall. Embergard, sadly, fell.
