Horizon Wars: Midnight Dark Accepting all Minis
For those who prefer Legions Imperialis scale tanks and mechs, but do not like the actual rules of the game, here’s a more flexible alternative. Horizon Wars: Midnight Dark is a ruleset for epic scale sci-fi wargames, published by Precinct Omega Publishing, that features tanks and mechs in Legions Imperialis scale.
As the game works with miniatures from 2mm to 15mm, so does your mini collection from the Legions Imperialis starter set, 1980s Epic, Battletech, and Dystopian Wars games. Using the rules, players will be able to build combined arms forces with mechs, tanks, infantry, and more.
As opposed to force lists, Midnight Dark lets you design your armies à la carte by selecting elements and upgrades. You can field cheap, untested troops. expensive veterans, or elites; etc. You can attach leaders to units who apply stat buffs or have heroic abilities, and you can tinker with guns, gear, and gadgets, of course.
In addition, you can even add off-table strategic assets to your force, like fighter jet cover, a field hospital, and tactical nuclear strikes, if you really hate some grid coordinates. A solo mode is also included in the rulebook, and Robey Jenkins says he is working on a rulebook for fighting bugs in the game.
Horizon Wars was published by Osprey Games in 2016. Since then, Jenkins has published two other wargames, Horizon Wars: Zero Dark and Horizon Wars: Infinite Dark, which cover a range of scales and time periods.
This game is ideal for a wide range of people who fall within these brackets:
- miniature collectors with diverse collections,
- or for tactical buffs who want to fight sci-fi battles with the appropriate rules for whatever scenario they’re representing
You can buy Horizon Wars’ digital version for $15.21 from Wargames Vault now. Jenkins said he used the lessons he learned from those to upgrade Horizon Wars for the Midnight Dark edition.
