The Return of Lion El’Jonson – Lord of the Dark Angels
Dark Angel Space Marines were introduced to the game in the 1980s. In March 2023, Lion El’Jonson, the long-lost leader of the Dark Angels, returned to the Imperium of Mankind for the first time in 10,000 years.
Roboute Guilliman, Primarch of the Ultramarines chapter and administrator extraordinaire, had been the only Primarch left standing for a long time. In the game’s modern canon, he has taken over as Imperium Leader. His de facto role in the 40K universe places him in the unenviable position of both dealing with all of the paperwork for a star-spanning empire and curbing its inevitable decline as it has descended into religious fanaticism
It was believed for years that El’Jonson was trapped in the Dark Angels’ fortress monastery, The Rock, but was actually sleeping. Last year he awoke, and arrived just in time, as described in the campaign book Arks of Omen: The Lion.
According to Arks of Omen: The Lion, Lion El’Jonson arrived just in time to save the Dark Angel chapter altogether. Lion El’Jonson is not a politician nor is he a paper pusher. It is clear in his stand-alone novel, The Lion: Son of the Forest, in the aforementioned campaign book, and in the recently released Codex Supplement: Dark Angels. But he is more than a knight on the go. He is a wandering knight tasked with protecting a ragged empire.
The Lion is ripping through hordes of Tyranids, demons, and dealing with his wayward boys. The Dark Angels are all the Lion’s boys, and they misbehaved during his 10k-year catnap after the implosion of Caliban, his homeworld.
