Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 Sets New Warhammer Record
With Helldivers 2’s success spearheading the co-op shooter boom, Space Marine 2 now has its turn to shine. Having launched in early access last week, the game is now fully launched. Albeit, it achieved a Steam player count that shatters Warhammer games’ record.
Although Helldivers 2 looks set to be crowned the best co-op game of the year, Space Marine 2 is fighting back. The game’s early access launch had 134,000 players, but that doesn’t compare to today’s full launch.
Currently, Space Marine 2 has the peak concurrent player count of 225,690, which is the highest of any Warhammer game. This beats all other Warhammer 40k games before it. Unbelievably. surpassing the previous record of 166,754 set in 2022 by Total War: Warhammer 3.
Space Marine 2 Sets New Franchise Record
As the week progresses and the viral on Space Marine 2 disperses, this peak player count will increase. Will it get close to Helldivers 2’s peak player count of 458,000? It’s almost midway, but Space Marine 2 is setting a new record.
Besides having a huge peak player count, Space Marine 2 has also recovered its negative ratings. After some performance wobbles and issues, it was sitting at a 67% Mixed rating a few days ago. Now, the game has clawed its way up to Very Positive, with 80% of reviews being positive.
Despite our reservations about Space Marine 2, its core gameplay mechanics are solid, and the simple pleasure of slamming bugs with your buddies will be enough to win anyone over. PVP is also available, for those who want to get competitive.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II is a third-person shooter hack-n-slash video game developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment as a sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. The game was released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X /S on 9 September 2024.
