Warhammer 40K: The Return of the Contemptor
Unlike the standard Dreadnought, the Contemptor has technology similar to that of the Adeptus Mechanicus Legio Cybernetica branch. This includes the Automatic Shielding field generator technology.
There are numerous weapons that can be attached to the Contemptor, including a Multi-Melta, twin-linked Heavy Flamers, a Plasma Cannon, a heavy Conversion Beamer, or twin-linked Lascannons.
New Contemptors are no longer able to be created by the Adeptus Mechanicus, but by certain factions of the Tech-Priest. Perhaps they share systems with the dreaded, Legio Cybernetica.
As of M41, only a few Contemptors remain in service, relics of the Great Crusade, Horus Heresy, and The Scouring. Among them are the Castaferrum Pattern and Redemption Pattern Dreadnoughts.
Another type of Contemptor-Cortus was a variation of the highly successful ‘Prime’ Contemptor pattern. Using many base components, the most sophisticated systems were replaced with robust, but less powerful, systems.
This produced a war machine with its own unique strengths and combat characteristics, but also with a reputation for instability. When the Horus Heresy broke out, the more easily produced variant of Contemptor Dreadnought was reintroduced in widespread service.
Nonetheless, there are so many versions of Contemptor Dreadnought the it would another volume to describe them. They differ in power, strength, speed and shield power. Here are a few important ones that you may encounter.
Despite the unrivaled skills of the warrior entombed within its sarcophagus, the Contemptor-Galatus is a much stronger, faster, and better-armored war machine, much like the Legiones Astartes’ Dreadnoughts.
Designed as a battleline anchor, the Contemptor-Galatus wields a huge Galatus Warblade and carries an enlarged version of the Legio Custodes Praesidium shield.
The Praesidium shield gives the Contemptor-Galatus an extremely high degree of impregnability, enduring the enemy onslaught and mowing down its enemies with its immense power blade.
The Contemptor Dreadnought are back in your Warhammer spotlight again.
