Warhammer: The Old World Battle Report Part 1
As the Old World has been out for over 3 months, now we are starting to get real data about the game. The folks at Woehammer have been tracking win rates and compiling other data, and now it’s time to see how the game balances.
Those are very valid points if critics think it is too early. However, there is enough data to take a look at armies and give them some tentative ratings. It is early days and a lot of things are skewing data since most players are using 8th Edition leftover armies.
Our focus today will be on Legacy Factions. While the game appears to be fairly balanced, there are some outliers. Legacy armies may get less play, so their numbers may be skewed.

Skaven: They are at the bottom of the league. The servants of the Horned Rat are at the bottom of the pack. Their total win rate is 41% (only beaten by Empire), and since the most recent FAQ, it has dropped to 27%
Generally speaking, Skaven suffer from being a Legacy army, which does not play like the core armies. They have also lost a few rules. Skaven are a big Age of Sigmar faction, and many competitive players have converted their armies to that system. This leaves only the closest Skaven fans to hold the torch for The Old World.
Dark Elves: The Dark Elves follow, with their average win rate sitting at 44%, just shy of the “balanced zone” of 45%-55%. Since the FAQ, their win rate has dropped to 39%, but this may just be a fluke.
As one of the better factions in the game, they struggle on the list, which often feels like “High Elves – but worse”. This is the legacy army issue. Witch Elves also seem to be lame currently. Another issue is the fierceness of their dragon, being one of the best.
