Games Workshop to Remove 82 Warhammer Kits
With the launch of Age of Sigmar 4th edition, Games Workshop plans to remove 82 Warhammer kits from sale. Some of the kits will be replaced with new models, while others will be repackaged.
Players who own these models can continue using them in their Age of Sigmar armies with free Warhammer Legends rules, suitable for home play. GW will continue to support Age of Sigmar 4th edition after that.
The Orruk Bonesplitterz and Beasts of Chaos will receive free-to-download digital battle tomes that will be “legal for use in competitive play until summer 2025”, according to a post on Warhammer Community.
Games Workshop to Remove 82 Warhammer Kits
There have been some significant changes to the Warhammer fantasy model line since Age of Sigmar launched in 2015. These resulted in both the Tomb Kings of Khemri and Bretonnia model lines being dropped from production. These changes are as follows:
- In order to make this transition as smooth as possible, the studio has removed 23 Stormcast Eternals kits from production. A free downloadable battle tome will be published for “most of these warscrolls” soon after the new edition launches.
- There are 16 Skaven kits that will be retired by Games Workshop. Considering they’re the title villains for the new edition, some of these models may return. However, the firm hints that not every kit will be updated yet.
- Slaves to Darkness will lose 11 kits, the majority of which were Warcry warbands, plus a Warhammer: Underworlds warband. It is unclear if the kits will continue to be produced for Warcry – a pity as they’d make excellent conversion material.
- Another harsh result is the removal of all seven Orruk Bonesplitterz kits, which have rules in Warhammer: The Old World’s Orcs and Goblins list, but there have been no announcements yet regarding the first wave of Orcs and Goblins minis.
- There are 18 Beasts of Chaos kits leaving Age of Sigmar, but the developer says the models will return in Warhammer: The Old World as Beastmen Brayherds.
