The Old World Factions – Part II
Following the launch of Warhammer: The Old World last month, we created an introduction to the supported and core factions. However, there are some that are still involved and will appear at some point in the game. This is the second part and will look at the lesser factions.
The Skaven: Skaven’s underempire is gripped by civil war. While battles rage in the underground tunnels, the ratmen cannot defend themselves against surface dwellers. The Skaven are not a core faction, but their legacy armies are.
It’s perfectly possible to build a furry army of infantrymen and unstable wonder weapons in The Old World using almost all Age of Sigmar Skaven model ranges. Just make sure to source square bases.
The Lizardmen: There are lizardmen living in the jungles of Lustria, far to the south and west of the Old World, isolated from the petty civil war in the human empire. They aren’t part of the main drama, so they’re legacy groups.
A Seraphon Army of Sigmar can be used to represent a model. The Lizardmen army consists of magically potent Slann mage priests, Saurus cavalry, nimble Skink skirmishers, and enormous dinosaurs as warbeasts.
Beastmen Brayherds: There is scant information about the Beastmen, but they are a perennial threat to the Empire, lurking in its forbidding forests, and it is difficult to imagine The Old World being centered around the Empire while still ignoring them.
According to a Warhammer Community post on January 11 2023, “Beastmen Brayherds surge out of the deep forests” as a threat to the Empire, but it doesn’t specify how they will appear in the game.
The Tomb Kings: It’s hard to kill something that’s already dead, so it’s no wonder the Tomb Kings have ascended from their graves to return to the Old World, ruling over Nehekhara and Khemri, their city of power.
A Warhammer Community post on October 14 2022 confirmed that the Tomb Kings would be announced. Then, on February 6, 2023, Games Workshop published a development diary all about the bony boys.
