Total War: Warhammer 3 Hotfix Reveals
A new hotfix released for Total War: Warhammer 3 has brought many insights, fixes, and even name changes. The new hotfix removes a randomly generated High Elf name that shares ties with a German general from the Second World War.
Firstly, though, here are some important bug fixes. Legendary heroes will now spawn armies in a settlement. However, one aspect where Legendary Heroes fail to spawn a foe remains under investigation.
- Fixed a specific issue where Legendary Heroes would not
spawn if the army they intended to spawn at (usually the faction leader) was in a
settlement that was under siege. We have noticed some additional edge cases of
Legendary Heroes failing to spawn which we are currently investigating.
- A few changes have been made to Saytang’s visuals in order to maintain its authenticity. Many heroes have had their Assault Units changed to Assault Units, which now deal damage spread across random units in an opposing army. Vlad and Isabella von Carstein can now properly scout ruins.
High Elf name Guderian, which was randomly selected, is the surname of Nazi general Heinz Guderian, who led divisions in Poland, France, and Russia. He pioneered the blitzkrieg strategy used by Germany to rapidly overwhelm countries in World War II.
After serving as Hitler’s personal advisor, Guderian surrendered to American forces in 1945 before being imprisoned until 1948. He died in 1956.
The Total War team removed the name from Warhammer 2 and Warhammer 3 so that their characters would not be associated with Nazis. In their explanation, they wrote:
“Recently we learned that one of the random names generated from the High Elf pool had connotations that could be tied to an abominable character from 20th Century history.
“We apologise that the name has been present in the game for this long, and are grateful to those who brought it to our attention so that we could take action.”
