Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader
Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader – Official Consequences Showcase Trailer
In the most recent Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader trailer, the game’s impact on your decisions is shown. Check it out to get a sneak preview of what is to come.
On December 7, 2023, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader will be accessible on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and Windows PC (via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store).
The CRPG by Owlcat tracks your decisions on three axes, with five ranks to indicate how far you progress along each. The Hereticus conviction increases when you put power ahead of morals and succumb to the temptations of Chaos, whereas the Imperialis conviction gauges your fervent devotion to the God-Emperor.
Acting as though individual human lives genuinely matter fosters benevolentia—a contentious notion in the Imperium of Man. The dialogue options, events, and skills that are unlocked when your convictions rise in rank can also change how NPCs interact with you.
Inquisitor Xavier Calcazar, who seems to be punishment personified, is introduced in the trailer. “All these decisions will affect the whole subsector, attracting the uncomfortable attention of Inquisitor Calcazar,” the stern narrator of the teaser states, “who is currently overseeing the Koronus Expanse.”
The Inquisition won’t be pleased if you go too far down the Hereticus or Benevolentia routes, but given the variety of alternatives available, it doesn’t appear to be the end of the game. Instead, being questioned by Calcazar appears to be a way to decide which course the story will follow. The trailer claims that “your responses may even set you on a specific path, unlocking a unique game ending.”
It will be interesting to observe if Rogue Trader strikes a balance between these beliefs. Despite the fact that the Benevolentia track would seem like the obvious “good guy” option, I’m sure there will be consequences if you try to play the goody two-shoes—especially if you have a space marine in your party and the Inquisition is circling your very high collar.
