Skaven Returns to Warhammer Tabletop
The Skaven make their grand return in Warhammer Age of Sigmar, due out in the Summer of 2024. A cinematic trailer showed Stormcast Eternals and hordes of Skaven ratmen fighting at AdeptiCon.
It sets the climate for Warhammer Age of Sigmar with the Skaven’s comeback taking a twist. Sigmar, humanity’s god-king, lied about the immortality of his warriors. There are no specifics on the new edition’s model range.
Last year’s Warhammer 40K 10th Edition reveal was no exception. This means we can look forward to hallowed knights and angelic units joining madcap Skaven inventions. These could include warpstone-powered sniper rifles and gatling guns.
Having survived friendly fire for decades, Skaven weapons bear the same quirks as their predecessors… but given how excited fans have been about the return of this fan-favorite army, this shouldn’t be a problem.
The Skaven Returns to Warhammer Tabletop Teaser Trailer
The mysterious ‘lie’ that Games Workshop has been teasing for the past week will lead to a new kind of warrior: the Stormcast Eternals. Sigmar had said that they were immortal and could be revived indefinitely, but it turns out that’s not true.
As warriors die, their souls erode – and that’s where Reclusian Stormcast from the Ruination Chamber comes in. They are capable of shrugging off most wounds or magical attacks. In particular, it is the idea that they are on the verge of losing their soul if they die again. It’s a compelling concept, and one that makes the reader lose himself in this fantasy spin on the Space Marine archetype.
However, the ratmen were the clear highlight of the game. It’s good to see them back again. Even though they’re nastier than before, they still have a bit of a humorous edge. Age of Sigmar can benefit from their inclusion rather than be overwhelmed by it. Get ready to have fun with them.
