Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Gets Versus Mode
In 2019, Fatshark first mentioned plans to add a Versus Mode game to Warhammer: Vermintide 2. That was the last time the studio mentioned it, but last year it confirmed the mode was still in development. At about the same time, announced closed alpha testing.
In the game, two teams of four compete against each other on existing Adventure Mode maps as Heroes or Pactsworn. The goal of the Hero team is to earn as many points as they can by completing various objectives. Upon completion, they move to the next section of the map.
Interestingly, the Pactsworn attempt to kill or disable the Hero team. Players in the teams will switch roles after each section has been completed or all Heroes have been incapacitated. The team with the most points at the end of the match is declared the winner.
According to a recent blog post, the closed alpha testing has ended and the open alpha is now in full swing. In the new build, the Righteous Stand map has been replaced with the new Screaming Bell terrain, Changes have also been made to both factions, with the Pactsworn faction given a fighting chance. This levels the playground as they are no longer dominated by the Heroes.
The ongoing alpha test will run until March 18, 2024, and is available on the Warhammer: Vermintide 2 client. The standalone launcher used in the closed alpha tests is no longer required. The game is on sale at 80% off on Steam and the Versus Mode is available.
It’s still in alpha, so if you see anything you think needs to be changed, let the developers know. The game is improving the Pactsworn to help their win rate while keeping the game balanced. Fatshark will pay attention to your feedback, so do not be shy about sharing information or tips with the studio.
